A brand-new car starts losing value the moment it leaves the dealership. How quickly that happens is harder to predict, and for buyers weighing a familiar nameplate against a newer electric vehicle brand, the question of future resale value can shape the decision long before the car is ever put up for sale.
VinFast is addressing that uncertainty in the Philippines through its Residual Value Guarantee (RVG) Program, which gives eligible buyers a predetermined reference point for their vehicle’s future value and a mechanism for the company to share part of the resale-value risk.
Resale Value: A Growing EV Concern
The concern is well documented. A 2025 study on EV adoption in the Philippines found that 48% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that EVs have a lower resale value than conventional fuel-powered vehicles, while another 44% indicated uncertainty about EV resale value. Deloitte’s 2023 Global Automotive Consumer Study similarly found that 19% of Philippine respondents cited uncertain resale value as a concern regarding battery EVs.
For conventional vehicles, buyers have decades of market history to draw on, from used-car listings to word-of-mouth valuations. A newer EV brand has less history to lean on. And because the Philippine used-car market is ultimately shaped by what buyers and sellers are willing to accept, there is no guaranteed answer to what a vehicle will be worth several years after purchase.
Turning an Unknown Into a Predictable Number
Instead of leaving a vehicle’s future value entirely to the market, VinFast’s RVG establishes a predetermined value based on a fixed schedule. For eligible vehicles, VinFast guarantees up to 90% of the vehicle’s net retail price after six months, 86% after one year, 78% after two years, and 70% after three years, subject to the program’s conditions.
Consider a VF 5 purchased at a P1.099 million net retail price. Under the program’s 70% three-year guarantee, its guaranteed value would be P769,300 after three years, provided the vehicle meets eligibility requirements.
The distinction is important: an RVG does not mean the vehicle will not depreciate. Rather, it gives the buyer a predetermined reference point and provides a path for VinFast to take on part of the resale-value risk. Instead of finding a buyer through the open market, a qualifying owner can go through the program’s buyback mechanism, with VinFast purchasing the vehicle at the guaranteed value applicable under the program, subject to its terms and conditions.
More Than a Resale Guarantee
A vehicle is easier to own when it can be serviced conveniently, easier to use when charging is accessible, and easier to keep on the road when warranty and aftersales support are clear. It is also potentially easier to pass on when more motorists are familiar with the brand and the ecosystem supporting it.
VinFast has been building its EV offering alongside the RVG, signalling its intention to establish a long-term presence in the market. As of September 2026, the company has established a network of 33 dealerships and 59 service centers, signed partnerships with banks, and worked with local partners to develop a growing charging network. Its vehicles are covered by warranties of up to 10 years and 200,000 km, depending on the model. VinFast also offers three years of free charging at V-Green-operated stations, flexible financing, and 24-hour technical and roadside assistance.
This ecosystem is particularly critical in the developing Philippine market, where a Deloitte study found that 55% of consumers worry about charging infrastructure and 36% cite a lack of EV knowledge. Building confidence in an EV, in other words, involves more than selling the vehicle itself. It means giving buyers reasons to believe the car will remain practical, supported, and relevant throughout the ownership journey.
Building Confidence for the Next Buyer
An EV’s future value relies on an ongoing cycle of trust: accessible parts, practical daily use, and a thriving second-hand market. This explains why established legacy brands command premium used-car prices, as widespread familiarity breeds buyer confidence, which in turn fuels an active resale market for the next generation of EV adopters.
VinFast tackles this challenge from two fronts: the RVG program establishes a predetermined financial floor for the future, while an expanding charging and aftersales ecosystem makes daily ownership practical in Philippine realities. By answering the lingering question of “What happens when I am ready for my next car?” head on and upfront, VinFast aims to provide the transparency needed to make the switch to electric mobility easier to trust.
