MG Philippines posted a 49% increase in sales from January to September 2021, compared to the same period last year, marking the brand’s robust year-on-year growth. The brand sold 4,258 units in the first 9 months of the year, 725 units of which were sold in September 2021 alone.
Driving sales for MG Philippines are its two best-selling models: the MG 5 Sedan and the MG ZS crossover SUV. The MG 5 Sedan is highly regarded in the local subcompact sedan category for its best-in-class features, exterior size, cabin and luggage space, and driving dynamics. On the other hand, the ZS is the brand’s value-laden crossover SUV. From January to September 2021, total sales of the MG 5 sedan are recorded at 1,159 units, while the ZS Crossover SUV reports 2,979 unit sales over the same period. Compared to their YTD sales figures in 2020, both reflect marked increases at 51% and 67% for the MG 5 and ZS, respectively.
“We are happy that MG Philippines successfully weathered the challenges brought about by the global pandemic, and achieved accelerated growth in sales performance over the past two years. This is a testament to the collective efforts and support of our principals at SMIL, the trust and commitment of our dealer partners, and the grit and experience of the TCCCI stewards. With these, MG Philippines was able to effectively adopt new and more efficient sales processes, implement exciting product offers, and execute marketing strategies that resulted in the brand’s continued growth and exceptional sales performance thus far in 2021,” said Atty. Alberto B. Arcilla, president and CEO of MG Philippines. He adds, “The wisdom and experience of the TCCCI board and management allowed MG Philippines to quickly pivot to the unique situation brought about by the pandemic. TCCCI acknowledges that the market’s appreciation is heightened by the inherent strengths of a heritage car brand like MG. With our exciting product offers, value-added aftermarket services, a growing nationwide dealership network, and the support from all our valued MG stakeholders—our clients, dealers, bank, and media colleagues—MG Philippines is able to achieve and sustain its sales projections and overall upward trajectory.”
MG Philippines is primed to end 2021 strong, starting Q4 2021 with the introduction of the new ZST Crossover SUV: a fresh take on a crowd favorite, it is the first MG to enter the Philippines sporting MG’s updated global design language. The MG ZST is equipped with a new, turbocharged 1.3-liter engine that produces 160hp and 230Nm of torque.
The ZST joins the existing roster of ZS models currently available from MG Philippines, namely the Alpha AT, Style AT, and Core MT variants. “With the new ZS T by MG, what customers get is an upgrade of all the best features of the original ZS, headlined by a punchy and responsive turbocharged engine that provides power on tap when you need that extra boost on the road,” said Atty. Arcilla.
