Mazda owners are a loyal lot, and this is especially true for owners of their popular 2-seater roadster. The Philippines is a very important market for the brand and has sold more than 1,000 Miata MX-5’s to date – the largest population of the nameplate in Asia outside of Japan.
Mazda Philippines announced yesterday a program that will make the ownership of the MX-5 even more personal. The Build Your Personal MX-5 Program starting this month, November, makes available a total of 78 combinations for customers to choose from when they pre-order their 2021 MX-5. Items that can be customized include transmission type (M/T and A/T), exterior color (Soul Red Crystal, Machine Gray, Polymetal Gray, Snowflake White Pearl, Arctic White, Jet Balck, and Deep Crystal Blue Mica — new color), interior trim (Red Napa Leather, and black leather), soft top or retractable fastback, and even up to two different soft top color choices ().
New for 2021MY MX-5 are available premium-grade, 6-speed manual transmission MX-5 soft-top variants. This package includes luxurious leather seats, either in Red Nappa or Premium Black Leather and a 9-Speaker BOSE Sound System. Standard for Premium Soft Top Manual Transmission are Bilstein Dampers and front strut bars.
New for 2021MY MX-5 Soft Top is a new soft top color, Dark Cherry, on top of the current classic black soft top. A new exterior color available for all variants is Deep Crystal Blue Mica, which replaces the previously available blue shade.
“Mazda is known for its beautifully designed, superior quality, and meticulously engineered cars,” shares Steven Tan, president and CEO of Mazda Philippines. “The distinctive and dynamic nature of Mazda Design has influenced us to be more creative on how we present our cars to our customers. That is why we are introducing the Build Your Personal MX-5 Program.”
Tan adds, “By giving them the opportunity to personally design and customize their very own MX-5 with our interactive online and showroom ordering guide, our clients will surely feel an even deeper and longer-lasting bond with their cars. This is a privilege previously found only in luxury sports car brands. And now, we make it available to Mazda clients who wish to create an even more personal MX-5 to suit their personality.”
The customized pre-order will be initiated by a reservation fee in any of the 19 Mazda dealerships nationwide and are expected to have an average lead time of between four to six months from order to delivery, depending on production allocation capacity and shipping logistics timing. Pricing for the MX-5 Soft Top ranges from Php 1,980,000 to Php 2,260,000, while the MX-5 RF starts at Php 2,290,000 and tops out at Php 2,390,000. The luxe MX-5 RF Club Edition that comes with Recaro seats and BBS wheels has a price tag of Php 2,690,000.
For our market, all Mazda MX-5 variants will be powered by the 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine that produces 181.4hp and 205Nm of torque. As with all Mazda vehicles sold in the country, the Mazda MX-5 comes with a 5-Year Free Service Plan. This covers all expenses of periodic maintenance at either six-month or 10,000km intervals, for up to five years or 100,000km, whichever comes first.
