Chery Auto Philippines recently launched its newest contender in the burgeoning subcompact crossover segment—the new Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid.

The Tiggo 5X Pro completes the Tiggo line’s transition to ‘Pro’ status, following the tire tracks of its successful siblings, the Tiggo 2 Pro, Tiggo 7 Pro, and Tiggo 8 Pro. It sports a big, bold Diamond Galaxy grille, distinctive LED headlights with a follow-me-home function, and dual-row LED daytime running lights housed within a sporty black-and-chrome housing. It also has power-folding side mirrors with turn signals, chrome trim on the windows, a rear spoiler with high-mounted brake light, a new rear bumper with sporty chrome and silver trim on the diffuser, and integrated load-bearing roof rails. The Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid ships with 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels with 215/55R18 tires for sporty good looks and responsive handling.
The new Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid’s cabin reflects the same upscale style and features as its exterior. Its bucket-type front seats are covered in sustainably-produced faux leather and come with sporty red accents. It has multi-color ambient lighting, a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 4-way adjustable front passenger seat, an intelligent remote key, tilt-and-telescope steering wheel, push-button engine start, auto start/stop, multi-function steering wheel buttons, power sunroof, remote tailgate unlock, one-touch power windows with anti-pinch protection, and an N95 cabin filter.
For its infotainment unit, it has a biggest-in-class 10.25-inch touchscreen with 6 speakers and boasts Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and USB connectivity. It also has a fully-digital 7-inch instrument cluster, a 360-degree around-view monitor, reversing camera with dynamic guidelines, electronic cruise control with speed limiter, an electronic parking brake, and wireless mobile phone charging.
The new Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid is powered by a new-generation 1.5-liter turbocharged DOHC VVT 16-valve Euro 6-compliant 4-cylinder gasoline engine coupled with an all-new continuously variable transmission (CVT). The engine works with a 48-volt belt-starter generator (BSG) mild-hybrid motor to develop 154HP and 230Nm of torque.
The mild hybrid technology allows the Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid to have various EV functions like Auto Start & Stop, which shuts off the engine when engine power is not needed such as during stoplights to save fuel, Energy Recovery, wherein the mild hybrid system regenerates energy during coasting or braking and the energy generated will then be converted and stored as electrical energy in the batteries. Other mild hybrid benefits include fuel efficiency and lower emissions (the 48V technology boosts the engine and assists it during acceleration).
Suspension is courtesy of McPherson struts in front and an independent multi-link setup in the rear. Braking power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes (ventilated at the front) with ABS and Brake Assist.
The Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid’s suite of safety and security features includes 6 SRS airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Hill Assist Control, Hill Descent Control, traction control, a tire pressure monitoring system, ISOFIX seat anchor, an electronic anti-theft system with engine immobilizer, and 3-point dual-pretensioner seatbelts for all five occupants.
