Honda Cars Philippines (HCPI) today launched the much-awaited update to its premium subcompact crossover, the all-new HR-V. Having sold 3.5 million units globally as of December 2021, and more than 7,000 units locally since its launch in 2015, HCPI is optimistic that the update will sell upwards of 120 units per month or 1,400 units within a year.
Exterior
The all-new Honda HR-V features an aggressive look that is accentuated with premium and sporty details. In front, it flaunts new headlights and fog lamps that have standard LEDs with turn light signals, auto on/off function, and Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) for optimal visibility on the road. The front of the all-new Honda HR-V V Turbo CVT Honda SENSING has a mesh-type grille, while the base S CVT Honda SENSING variant comes with a black bar type grille. Noticeable on the top trim is its sport-type bumper with the Amp Up Line design, giving the vehicle added character.
On its side, the HR-V features a sharp body line along with a coupe-like profile which was achieved through its sloping roofline and rear door handles that are well-integrated into the C-pillar. Both variants come with a shark fin antenna and 17-inch alloys wrapped 215/60 tires, (gray finish rims for the V Turbo CVT Honda SENSING and black and silver treatment for the base S CVT Honda SENSING variant). For added sportiness, black cladding is standard for both variants.
The rear of the all-new HR-V features an LED Tail Light Bar that elevates the premium and sporty vibe of the exterior. Both trims have contrasting rear bumpers, while the higher variant gets an additional dual tailpipe layout with finishers.
Interior
The interior of the all-new HR-V features a human-centric cabin that’s designed with good ergonomics and treated with quality materials. It offers optimized comfort, premium features, and subcompact crossover versatility. Infotainment is courtesy of an 8-inch touchscreen display audio paired with a 6-speaker sound system that supports various multimedia functions including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto which gives the driver access to several apps.
Other creature comforts include a one-push start system, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, single-zone automatic climate control with rear air vents, and the new air diffusion system that evenly circulates air to all occupants in the cabin. Remote engine start using the keyfob is standard across both variants.
Leather upholstery is exclusive on the V Turbo CVT Honda SENSING, while the base S CVT Honda SENSING gets fabric seats. As for the instrument cluster where important vehicle details are projected, the V Turbo CVT Honda SENSING features a 7-inch digital display while the S CVT Honda SENSING comes with a 4.2-inch digital display. Like other Honda vehicles, the All-New Honda HR-V also boasts its flexible interior space with three 3 adjustable modes: Utility, Long, and Tall mode.
The interior layout goes by Honda’s ‘man maximum-machine minimum’ principle, where the purpose of technology and design is to serve the needs of the driver and passengers. This makes the All-New Honda HR-V more user-oriented and comfortable to sit in than ever.
Engine and transmission
The Philippine-spec all-new Honda HR-V has two engine options, both paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) for an efficient and refined driving experience.
The top-grade is powered by a 1.5-liter VTEC Turbo engine that produces 177 PS and 240 Nm of torque, while the base grade is fitted with a 1.5L DOHC i-VTEC engine that produces 121 PS and 145 Nm of torque.
Similar to the other vehicles in Honda’s stable, the all-new HR-V has 3 distinct driving modes to adapt its driving characteristics depending on the driver’s needs: ECON, Normal, and Sport (for the top grade).
Safety
In pursuit of Honda’s global goal to realize zero traffic collision fatalities by 2050, Honda SENSING is standard with the all-new HR-V. The system includes the following features Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS); Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow (LSF); Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS); Road Departure Mitigation System with Lane Departure Warning (RDM with LDW); Auto High-Beam (AHB); and Lead Car Departure Notification System (LCDN).
Aside from the features above, the all-new HR-V also comes standard with smart keyless entry, security alarm and immobilizer, all-passenger seatbelt reminder, front and side airbags, speed-sensing door locks, ISOFIX child seat anchors, rear seat reminder, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Descent Control (HDC), which is new for the All-New HR-V, Hill-Start Assist (HSA), and many more. It also now sports the G-force Control (G-CON) body structure which enhances impact absorption for the added protection of passengers in the event a collision occurs.
