With the move from its previous distributor to the new direct subsidiary and other issues concerning after-sale service, Geely Philippines has been the subject of a lot of heat over the last two years. While the dust still hasn’t really settled, here’s a rundown of the current situation. Geely in the country is now formally known as Geely Motor Philippines Corp. (GMP), and it’s a direct subsidiary of Geely Automotive International Corporation (GAIC). Helming the new company is Will Wan, who serves as its first president. Wan was formerly the regional sales director for GAIC, handling, among other countries, the Philippines, so he’s familiar with our market.

From the information we obtained from GMP officials, Geely in the Philippines will keep selling its present range of products, albeit the updated versions. During the brand’s relaunch held in Alabang, GMP officially introduced the updated models of the Coolray and Emgrand. It also announced the new pricing scheme for the GX3 Pro and the discount promotion for the coming EX5, where early adopters can save up to P110,000 from the SRP, which was oddly not disclosed. We expect the upgraded Okavango to join the lineup soon, while the long-standing Azkarra nameplate will be permanently dropped from the local roster. Wan announced that they will launch one vehicle per quarter in 2025.
GMP held an exclusive preview of the new models one week prior to the launch. They flew in Philan Sun, the Senior Training Manager of GAIC, to present the vehicles in depth. The all-electric Geely EX5 was discussed in-depth, and we expect this to be the first new model to launch under GMP.
The EX5
Measuring 1,901 mm (W), 4,615 mm (L), and 1,675 mm (T), the EX5 is a C-segment crossover that will directly compete with other electrified crossovers like the BYD Atto 3 and the Toyota Corolla Cross. Built on the Geely Electronic and Electrical Architecture 3.0 (GEEA), the EX5’s Short Blade Battery is integrated into the chassis via its cell-to-body structure. The battery has 40 percent longer battery life and has Vehicle to Load (V2L) and Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) capability. The EX5 charges from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes and uses a Type 2 charger port.

The EX5 boasts a sleek and aerodynamic profile. Its sophisticated LED taillights and technological front grille further emphasize its modern aesthetics. Inside, the EX5 has a minimalist design philosophy and comfortable materials. The dash is equipped with a 10.2-inch instrument panel, a 2.5-inch HD center display, and a 13.8-inch colored touchscreen developed together with smartphone brand Meizu, in which Geely has a substantial stake. The spacious cabin is enhanced by flexible seating options that include front seats that recline flat and the Half More storage concept that provides up to 50 percent more storage capacity, which includes drawers under the rear seat and center console. Making the interior feel even more spacious is the oversized panoramic sunroof that measures 1.180mm. Elevating the in-car experience is its FLYME Auto system and FLYME SOUND that deliver seamless connectivity and an immersive audio experience. Its FLYME Auto Smart Cockpit Voice Assistant can recognize 10 languages and knows how to execute 200+ voice commands without the need for manual intervention.

The EX 5 has 13 advanced driver assist systems (ADAS). These include automatic emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control (ACC), intelligent cruise control (ICC), traffic sign information (TSI), collision mitigation support (CMSF), gates open warning (DOW), lane keeping assist (LKA), emergency lane keeping assist (ELKA), blind spot detection (BSD), rear cross traffic alert (RCTA), and lane change assist (LCA).
GMP has yet to announce the launch date and SRP of the EX5.
