Caltex to raise PHP 3M Pesos Fund to support Public High Schools in Ilocos Region and CAR with Caltex Fuel Your School

Help is on the way for the highest-need public high schools in Ilocos region and CAR as Caltex, marketed by Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI), and branded marketer Northern Star Energy Corp., today launched the award-winning Caltex Fuel Your School (FYS) campaign. The project aims to raise P3 million through a fuel up-to-donate scheme from June 1 to July 31, 2018.

Caltex will donate one (1) peso for every liter of fuel purchase in Caltex stations throughout La Union, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, Abra, Mountain Province and Caltex station, Upper Session Road, Baguio City. The P3 million will be allocated among 30 of the highest-need public high schools, donating P100,000 to each school to fund classroom projects in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM).

From the 80 submissions, 30 project proposals were able to pass the screening process of AmCham Fnd. Phil. Inc (ACFPI). Department of Education (DepEd). Gaddani National High School teacher Wilma Salvador was one of those who made the shortlist for his proposal, “Science On The Go.”

“I’m exhilarated to be part of the Fuel Your School shortlist. Knowing how much the STEM students of Gaddani National High School will benefit from the equipment provision for such an extensive and engaging project makes me want to jump to the campaign period as soon as we can. We are grateful to Caltex for such a captivating campaign,” said Salvador.

Northern Star, a major project partner, donated a total of 1.5 million pesos and will leverage its 26 Caltex stations where motorists can gas up to participate in Caltex FYS.

Speaking during the launch at the Caltex station in Upper Session Road, Baguio City, Northern Star Chief Operating Officer, Juan Miguel T. Delgado said, “We are excited to start Caltex Fuel Your School. Education has always been part of our company’s social investment initiatives. Being a major partner in this project is a way for Northern Star to improve the learning environment of the students in the local communities where we operate.”

For the past 3 years, the Fuel Your School campaign of Caltex has been able to provide STEM resources to 88 schools, 3,000 public high school teachers, and over one million public high school students in Metro Manila, Davao, and Bicol. These efforts were recognized by different award-giving bodies such as the Silver and Gold Anvil Awards from Public Relations Society of the Philippines, a merit recognition from the coveted Quill Awards, and the American Chamber of Commerce CSR Excellence Awards.

“The implementation of the K-12 curriculum has laden the system with the lack of learning materials and equipment which has taken a backseat to structural provisions by the government. An inclusive and stakeholder-engaging project such as the Caltex Fuel Your School is indeed one of its kind and offers a quick solution to the gap in learning resources for the STEM track. The program is revolutionary and we are happy to support it,” DepEd Region 1, Chief Education Support Services Division, Edilberto R. Abalos, shared.

“We believe that by helping the highest-need public high schools, we help shape the economy’s future. Through Caltex Fuel Your School, we are able to enhance the learning experience of the students by providing them the opportunity to acquire 21st-century learning equipment. Giving back to the community is what inspires us to grow as a business.” Raissa Bautista, Manager, Policy Government and Public Affairs, said in a statement.
