So you’ve already dipped your toes into electrification—maybe you started with a hybrid, or you went all-in with a modest EV. Now that you’ve experienced electric driving, you want more. There are many EV options in the market, from compact city cars to premium flagships, but if you want performance without a Euro price tag, take a look at the new all-electric BYD Sealion 7 AWD.

Don’t be fooled into thinking it’s just a larger Sealion 6. Yes, it’s bigger, but it’s also a true all-electric performance SUV. The Sealion 7 delivers 530 PS and 690 Nm of torque, and paired with all-wheel drive, get you from 0–100 kph in 4.5 seconds. That edges out the BYD Tang EV’s 4.9 seconds and puts the Sealion 7 firmly in the performance bracket. During pre-launch runs in a closed course many media achieved 4.2–4.1 seconds—impressive for a vehicle of its size and weight, and only a few tenths off the brand’s previous flagship, the Seal EV (3.8 seconds).

Practicality is also strong. The Sealion 7 uses an 82.56 kWh battery with a quoted range of 542 km per charge. AC charging is 11 kW (standard), taking roughly 16 hours from 15%–100%. DC fast charging supports up to 150 kW and can recharge from 30% to 80% in about 30 minutes.

The exterior blends sportiness with a premium feel. The front is cleaner than the Sealion 6—no “whiskers”—and the car exhibits a more imposing stance thanks to pronounced wheel-arch shoulders and 20-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the cabin is minimalist and upscale: a 15.6-inch touchscreen anchors the dash, complemented by a flush-mounted digital instrument cluster, a comfortable, well-shaped steering wheel, and a clean center console. A head-up display keeps key driving info in your line of sight.

Comfort and convenience are Philippine-summer ready: a solid sunroof cover for the large panoramic roof, dual-zone climate control, rear air vents, and ventilated front seats. The driver gets an 8-way power-adjustable seat with leg rest and memory function, plus a wireless phone charger, BYD Voice Assistant, and three entry methods—app, NFC, or key fob.

As a midsize SUV, space is generous for passengers and cargo. The hands-free powered tailgate simplifies loading, and the cargo floor can be set lower for extra volume or raised to sit flush with the rear seats for a flat load surface.

Safety is comprehensive. BYD’s DiPilot advanced driver-assist suite includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, intelligent torque adaptation control, and a 360-degree view with a see-through mode—18 features in that suite alone—alongside eight airbags, traction control, and hill-hold control. The Sealion 7 also carries a 5-star rating from ANCAP, a stricter assessment than some regional tests.

Upkeep is another selling point. BYD claims annual PMS (preventive maintenance service), with an estimated 50% savings in total cost of ownership and up to 70% lower running costs compared with comparable ICE vehicles—savings that increase if you charge at home using the included wall or portable charger.

The BYD Sealion 7 AWD has an SRP of P2,588,000 and comes with a 6-year or 160,000 km bumper-to-bumper warranty package and an 8-year or 160,000 km for the BYD Blade battery. It is available in four exterior colors: Shark Grey, Cosmos Black, Aurora White, and Deep Sea Blue, all paired with black interiors.
