Volkswagen’s re-establishment in the country four years ago marked a milestone in the automotive scene. Aside from the Beetle, Jetta, Polo, Touran, and Touareg, the Wolfsburg-based carmaker also had a compact crossover in its Philippine catalog — the Tiguan.
With almost half a decade presence in the country, it was high time to replace the outgoing model with an all-new one.
The all-new Tiguan borrowed some lines and curves from Audi, and this is especially noticeable in the rear. Up front, the headlight cluster, bumper, and grille resemble the Tiguan’s. The variant displayed at the recently concluded 2017 Manila International Autoshow (MIAS) was the 1.4 TSI DSG Comfortline grade. The rims on this variant are called the “Kingston,” and they were wrapped around 235/55R18 tires.
What is interesting about the newly launched Tiguan is that it shares its platform with the current Volkswagen Golf.

The all-new Tiguan is longer by 54mm, wider by 153mm, but shorter by 34mm than its predecessor.
The interior of the all-new Tiguan is very straight forward. You won’t get confused with too many buttons and switches because the dash is well-crafted and neat. The 6.5-inch touchscreen audio system adds color to the dashboard. There’s also a rear air conditioning vent to cool passengers at the back.
Under the hood is the 1.4 TSI gasoline mill. It churns out 148hp and 250Nm and is paired with VW’s six-speed Dual-Shift Gearbox. As an added feature, it also has an engine start/stop function as standard.
Interested in getting one? The 1.4 TSI Comfortline is priced at P 2,259,000.00. Other features include electronic parking brake with auto hold function, Bluetooth connectivity, USB and auxiliary ports, and an automatic three-zone climate control. Safety features include the seven airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS), anti-slip regulation (ASR), electronic differential lock (EDL), and electronic stability program (ESP).
The all-new Tiguan is available in eight shades: tungsten silver, caribbean blue, ruby red, indium gray, atlantic blue, pure white, nutshell brown, and deep black pearl.
