One of the many car launches that were affected by this year’s turn of events was Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC)‘s introduction of the Xpander Cross.
The Xpander Cross is Mitsubishi’s family-friendly 7-seater crossover MPV that is positioned to be the top variant of its top-selling nameplate. Built with solid SUV styling, the Xpander Cross is spacious, comfortable, and pleasant to drive while being a practical people mover
First launched in 2018, the Xpander sold more than 13,000 units in its first year. Today, that number has grown to over 36,000 units sold. The Xpander currently accounts for 30% of the total sales of MMPC and has won numerous awards that validate it’s being a value-for-money vehicle.
“The Xpander is a very important product for MMPC as it fits many of the vehicle requirements of Filipinos. It provides reliable performance, a spacious and comfortable interior, a host of safety features, and a very bold design. Now with the entry of the Xpander Cross and its added features, we see the renewed potential for the already successful Xpander nameplate,” said MMPC President and CEO Mr. Mutsuhiro Oshikiri.
Dynamic Exterior Design
The Xpander Cross reflects the DNA of the Mitsubishi Motors Corporation through its Dynamic Shield design that projects the balance of dynamism and power. To enhance it’s sporty SUV image, in front, it sports a new front grille and bumper design, as well as LED headlights and fog lamps. It is also fitted with 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels and comes with a new fender arch and side body molding, a new rear garnish, LED combination lamps, and roof rails.
Outstanding Driving Performance
Under the hood is a 1.5L MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control system) DOHC 16 Valve gasoline engine that generates 103 HP @ 6000 rpm and maximum torque of 141 NM @ 4000rpm. The engine is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission.
Thanks to high-performance, sound-absorbing, and vibration blocking materials installed in the engine, the Xpander Cross is the most silent model in its class with near 80% articulation index. With the class-leading 225mm ground clearance, combined with a specially tuned suspension with a rebound spring, it is capable of traversing challenging terrains without compromising ride comfort. To further enhance driving comfort, the Xpander Cross is designed with a wide windshield and a high seating position that provides good visibility for the driver. It is also equipped with cruise control features to lessen fatigue during long drives.
Designed with users in mind
Inside, the Xpander Cross is predominantly black with brown accents and has dual-tone leather seats. The ergonomic dashboard features a white-lit high-contrast instrument panel and a 7-inch touch screen multimedia system with a reverse camera.
The spacious cabin is complemented with versatile seating, with the second and third-row seats folding flat to accommodate large cargo load. For loose items, it offers ample storage spaces such as seatback pockets, seat undertray, and a rear cargo box.
Pricing and availability
The Xpander Cross is priced at Php 1,255,000.00 and is available in four colors: sunrise orange; quartz white pearl; sterling silver metallic; and graphite gray metallic.
