The drive to success is founded in the desire for excellence and innate ambition. For Mazda, the pinnacle of its achievement does not end with the dotted line. In fact, it is only the beginning. The philosophy that has held Mazda to a standard begins and ends with its passion for building community and creating a better future, the world over. As a brand, it understands that it takes a village to keep life thriving, both for humans and all other creatures that form part of the vast ecosystem that we all share and live in.
This core belief is the reason for Mazda’s continued partnership with the Katala Foundation. Since 2020, Mazda and the Palawan-based organization have shared resources to ensure the protection of the Philippine Pangolin (Manis culionensis), one of the most endangered local mammals in the country. The Katala Foundation has long made it its mission to rebuild the pangolin’s native habitat and establish conservation efforts to create awareness and combat poaching.
Inspired by the dedication of the Katala Foundation, the original Mazda BT-50 Pangolin Edition was born. Three years later, a vehicle donation was made to the non-profit organization in recognition of its ongoing efforts to support the preservation and monitoring of the endemic mammal.
This year, Mazda Philippines extends its dedication to the Philippine pangolin cause by initiating the 1,500 Pangolin Project. For the fiscal year starting this May 2025, Mazda Philippines will donate P 1,500 to the Katala Foundation for every new Mazda BT-50 sold for its continued education and conservation efforts. It will directly fund its anti-poaching patrols, wildlife rescue, and public awareness efforts.
“This partnership with Mazda gives us hope, not just for the future of the Philippine pangolin, but for how meaningful and collective action can make a lasting impact on conservation,” shared Dr. Sabine Schoppe, who has made the foundation her life’swork.

The updated Mazda BT-50 pickup comes with thoughtful details inside and out. Going beyond specs, it offers performance and technology, making it ready for any adventure, big or small. It sports a bolder exterior look that progresses the brand’s KODO—Soul of Motion design. The interior has undergone a comprehensive update, featuring a new infotainment system, a 360-degree camera with integrated digital video recording, and improved materials and finishes.
Under the hood is a 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine paired with a 6-speed automatic, delivering confident power with superb fuel economy. Hill Launch Assist comes standard on all variants, and Rough Terrain Mode on the 4×4 Pangolin ensures exceptional traction and control even on the most challenging surfaces.
“The 1,500 Pangolin Project is an initiative that puts into motion Mazda’s dedication in championing for sustainability beyond driving by protecting what matters in the world around us,” said Steven Tan, President of Mazda Philippines. “This project is equally aligned with the vision of Mazda’s Sustainable Zoom-Zoom 2030 and the mission of the new Mazda BT-50 toward supporting environmental responsibility.”
