Ford Philippines unveiled the new 2019 Ford Ranger, an even tougher and more capable version of its segment-defining pick-up truck equipped with enhanced power, performance, and smart and safe features.

The new ‘Build Ford Tough’ Ranger expands on its capabilities and off-road credentials to best complement and enable the wide-ranging diversity of its customer’s work and lifestyles.

“With the new generation powertrain and advanced features, the new Ranger will continue to build on its already strong and widening appeal among Filipino customers, setting a new benchmark in the country’s growing pick-up segment,” said Bert Lessard, managing director, Ford Philippines.

The new Ranger offers a choice of three diesel engines: the new generation 2.0L Bi-Turbo, 2.0L Turbo, and the 2.2L TDCi.

Exclusive to the Wildtrak 4×4 and the Ranger Raptor, the new 2.0L Bi-Turbo diesel engine produces 210 HP of power and 500 NM of torque. The engine takes advantage of sequential turbocharging to deliver greater responsiveness, drivability, and maximum efficiency. A variable geometry turbocharger is employed for greater throttle response and eliminate lag by spooling up quickly at low speeds. The second unit is a fixed geometry turbocharger with a high flow capacity to deliver maximum power and performance. This powerplant is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission on the Wildtrak 4×4 and the Ranger Raptor.

The 2.0L Turbo diesel engine available on the Wildtrak 4×2 is also paired with a 10-speed automatic gearbox. This combination delivers 177 HP of power and 420 NM of torque.

Powering the XLT and XLS variants is Ford’s 2.2L TDCi engine which offers 158 HP/385 NM and comes with either a six-speed automatic or manual transmission.

The new Ranger’s suspension has been upgraded across the range to reduce and better control body roll, with emphasis on improving the driving experience when fully laden and towing.

The new packaging also enables geometry changes that bring improved ride, a reduction in body roll, as well as improved steering precision. Crucially, while improving the drive and refinement, the suspension changes do not impact on its towing and payload capabilities.

“The new Ranger continues to bring its ‘Built Ford Tough’ promise to life, delivering an even more capable pick-up truck. We look forward to serving even more Filipinos with the new Ranger’s tough capabilities and versatility that make it the perfect vehicle for work or play,” said Rodel Gallaga, vice president for Marketing and Sales, Ford Philippines.

Depending on the variant, some of the safety and driver-assist features on the new Ranger include Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Active Park Assist (APA), Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Departure Warning.

A new feature available on the XLT, Wildtrak, and Raptor variants is the Tailgate Lift Assist. With a new internal mechanism, the tailgate is now lighter to lift, with a 70 percent reduction in the initial force required to open and close it. These variants also offer Smart Keyless Entry, push-button start, up to six airbags, and SYNC3 that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing drivers to make calls, select music, and use apps with eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.

The new Ford Ranger is priced as follows:

  • Ranger 2.0L Bi-Turbo Wildtrak 4×4 AT – PHP 1,695,000
  • Ranger 2.0L Turbo Wildtrak 4×2 AT – PHP 1,455,000
  • Ranger 2.0L Turbo WIldtrak 4×2 MT – PHP 1,390,000
  • Ranger 2.2L XLT 4×2 AT – PHP 1,233,000
  • Ranger 2.2L XLT 4×2 MT – PHP 1,173,000
  • Ranger 2.2L XLS 4×4 MT – PHP 1,178,000
  • Ranger 2.2L XLS 4×2 AT – PHP 1,089,000 (NEW!)

The Ranger Raptor

The Ranger Raptor is Ford’s high-speed, off-road, performance pick-up truck that was launched regionally earlier this year. It is the ultimate Raptor that was purposefully designed, built and tested to set a benchmark as the only factory-built performance truck across Asia-Pacific. Designed by the Ford Performance team for the true enthusiast off-roader, Ford Ranger Raptor strengthens Ford’s commitment to deliver “Built Ford Tough” pick-up trucks.

The Ranger Raptor is equipped with a new 2.0-liter Bi-Turbo diesel engine that delivers 210 HP of power and 500 NM of torque. The engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission — the same one found on the F-150 Raptor — created with high-strength steel, aluminum alloys, and composites to optimize durability and weight.

The Ranger Raptor’s Position Sensitive Damping (PSD) shock absorbers are exclusively manufactured by FOX, designed to provide higher damping forces at full jounce and rebound for better off-road capabilities. Its rear suspension uses a Watt’s link setup with a solid rear axle to provide lateral control off-road while also helping improve ride and handling. Its chassis was specifically designed for the vehicle to travel at high speeds off-road.

Built to withstand high-impact off-roading, the Ranger Raptor’s frame consists of various grades of high-strength, low-alloy (HSLA) steel. The stiffened side-rails are made from increased HSLA grade steel to absorb off-road speed impacts.

The Ranger Raptor has a ground clearance 283mm and is fitted with specially developed all-terrain BF Goodrich 284/70 17-inch tires to ensure stability on and off-road.

Safety and Driver-Assist features

The Ranger Raptor’s Terrain Management System (TMS) includes Baja mode that enables ultra-responsive, high-speed off-road performance. In this mode, vehicle systems like Traction Control are pared back to allow spirited off-road driving without intervention from the vehicles onboard systems. Gear selection is optimized for maximum performance, and the mapping will hold gears longer and downshift more aggressively.

Ford’s Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Trailer Sway Control (TSC), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Hill Descent Control (HDC), and Load Adaptive Control (LAC) are standard.

The Ranger Raptor is priced at PHP 1,898,000 and is available in Conquer Grey, Lightning Blue, Red Race, Shadow Black, and Frozen White.
