The New Suzuki XL7 Hybrid Black Upgrade is More Than Just Character

Who would have thought that adding black trims to the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid would dramatically redefine its character? While the previous two-tone variations already offered a rugged appeal, the XL7 Hybrid Black Upgrade elevates its presence to a whole new level.

Paired with Suzuki’s innovative Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) technology, the XL7 Black Upgrade offers a striking yet fuel-efficient seven-seater MPV that commands attention.

Enhanced Rugged Appearance with Black Trims

The XL7’s commanding stance features a pronounced front nose and a high bonnet, emphasizing its SUV DNA. Now, with the black upgrade trims, the front grille’s center horizontal accent is blacked out, highlighting the floating silver logo. This design complements the sharp LED headlamps with DRLs, adding a sleek touch.

Black body claddings and side protection moldings enhance the rugged aesthetic, beautifully contrasted by matte black 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 195/60 tires. The silver-finished front and rear bumper guard plates, along with roof rails, further accentuate the bold look. The rear features a black backdoor panel and vertically oriented LED tail lamps, completing the modern, aggressive style.

Stylish and Functional Interior

Inside, the black motif with silver accents creates an elegant ambiance that aligns with the exterior’s upgraded look. The dashboard’s silver accents highlight a 10-inch touchscreen multimedia system featuring GPS navigation, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a sporty instrument cluster. Practicality is also a priority with multiple cup holders, including ventilated ones in the center console.

The chunky three-spoke steering wheel seamlessly integrates controls for Bluetooth, audio, cruise control, and telephony. Additional amenities include automatic front and manual rear air conditioning, multiple USB ports, a 12V power socket, and a keyless push-start system. The thoughtfully designed cockpit ensures controls are within easy reach for a comfortable drive.

Versatile Space and Accessibility

The tumbled second-row seats simplify access to the third row, facilitating comfortable entry for adults. The wide tailgate opening simplifies loading and unloading, while the flexible seat configurations maximize cargo space—whether for a family trip or haulage. The XL7 seamlessly transitions between a comfortable family mover and a practical cargo vehicle.

What Makes the SHVS Technology Special?

Suzuki’s SHVS system, known as a “mild hybrid,” is a lightweight, compact propulsion assist designed for enhanced efficiency. It consists of an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) coupled with a 12V lithium-ion battery (0.12 kWh). Powering this system is a 1.5-liter K15B petrol engine paired with a four-speed automatic transmission.

The engine produces 103 hp at 6,000 rpm and 138 N-m of torque at 4,400 rpm. The belt-driven ISG adds an extra 2.37 hp, primarily assisting acceleration—what Suzuki calls the Torque Assist Function. During driving, the system provides additional power during acceleration and uses regenerative braking to recharge the battery, supporting fuel economy.

The Engine Auto Stop-Start System (EASS) further boosts efficiency by shutting down the engine when stationary (with the air-con off unless disabled) and seamlessly restarting when needed.

Driving Experience with SHVS

The torque assist function is most noticeable during initial acceleration, providing a boost akin to a larger engine. This assistance enhances performance and optimizes fuel efficiency—especially during city commutes and highway drives.

The XL7 remains stable on highways and feels nimble in corners, with responsive steering feedback. In lower gears, the engine delivers more torque—ideal for climbing or maneuvers. The auto-stop-start system works smoothly, though it can be disabled if preferred.

Safety First

Built on Suzuki’s new HEARTECT platform, the XL7 boasts a highly rigid yet lightweight body that disperses impact energy efficiently, enhancing passenger safety and reducing noise and vibrations. Plus, Suzuki’s Total Effective Control Technology (TECT) distributes collision forces to minimize damage.

Standard safety features include Electronic Stability Program (ESP), SRS airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), ISOFIX child seat anchors, and Hill-Hold Control.

Pricing and Warranty

The Suzuki XL7 is available at all Suzuki dealerships at a starting price of P 1,252,000 for the GLX AT variant and P 1,262,000 for the GLX AT Black Upgrade. Each unit comes with a 3-year or 100,000-kilometer warranty, whichever comes first.
