SMC Asia Car Distributors Corp., the official importer, and distributor of BMW in the Philippines, has announced the availability of the first-ever BMW X7, the German brand’s brand-new flagship Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV).
Design
Measuring 5,151 mm in length, 2,000 mm wide and 1,805 mm tall, and with a wheelbase of 3,105 mm, the new head of the BMW X model family is huge. Upfront, it is hard not to notice its exceptionally large BMW kidney grille that adds to its undeniable sense of presence. LED fog lights and BMW Laserlight headlight technology come standard and can be easily identified by the blue x-shaped elements inside the headlights.
When viewed from the side, the car’s defining features are its large windows, high ground clearance, and long roofline. Horizontal lines, slim LED lights and the two-section split tailgate emphasize the contemporary styling of the rear end.
As part of the Pure Excellence design trim, there is a generous sprinkling of chrome elements in the BMW X7. The car is fitted with 21-inch light-alloy wheels with runflat tires for an imposing stance, and black gloss and satin aluminum accents to complete the look.
Luxurious Space
The BMW X7 accommodates 7 passengers in its 2-3-2 seating configuration. The usually cramped third row is fitted with two full-size seats complete with armrests, cup holders, and USB ports. All seats are adjusted electrically, at the push of a button. The boot capacity can be increased from 326 to a maximum of 2,120 liters, as required.
As expected, materials used inside the cabin are supple and luxurious to the touch, and the creature comforts are also top-notch. Standard to the BMW X7 are the BMW Individual Extended Leather Trim “Merino” Upholstery, five-zone automatic climate control, the Ambient Air package, the Panorama glass roof Sky Lounge, CraftedClarity glass applications, Harman Kardon Surround Sound System, Rear-seat Entertainment Professional system, Luggage-compartment Package, and ambient lighting including the Welcome Light Carpet.

Power
The BMW X7 xDrive30d is powered by a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo in-line six-cylinder diesel with an output of 265 hp and 620 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and paired with the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system. The X7 also comes with Adaptive Suspension with electronically controlled dampers, and air springs at both axles that can adjust the vehicles ground clearance by up to 80 mm by either pressing a button or using the BMW Display Key.
Fuel consumption (combined) is pegged at about 6.8 – 6.5 l/100 km, while CO2 emissions (combined) are of 178 – 171 g/km.
Driver Assist and Safety
The BMW X7’s full range of driver-assist and safety features include six airbags, Antilock Braking System (ABS), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Hill Descent Control (HDC), Active Protection, Integral Active Steering, Cruise Control with Braking function, and Parking Assistant Plus.
The BMW Live Cockpit Professional also comes standard, and comprises a fully digital instrument cluster as well as a Control Display, each with a 12.3-inch screen, and comes with Navigation, Apple CarPlay, as well as Bluetooth and USB connectivity.
