After three highly successful and fun-filled legs, Isuzu Philippines Corporation’s four-wheel driving roadshow returned to Metro Manila for its last installment this year.
Held on November 25 to 27, 2016 at SM Fairview, the Isuzu 4×4 Action Playground offered off-road driving enthusiasts and mall goers a chance to check out the capabilities of Isuzu vehicles at tackling extreme terrain.
Two units each of the Isuzu mu-X 4×4 LS-A and Isuzu D-MAX 4×4 LS were available for test-drives. The specially prepared course included obstacles like the slipper slope, articulation ramp, 40-degree transverse-angle ramp, and the centerpiece – the 20-foot Thrill Hill — all of which were designed to test the limits of the capable vehicles.
“The urbane and sophisticated exterior styling of the Isuzu mu-X and Isuzu D-MAX, especially with their latest upgrades, may lead many people to overlook the fact that these two models’ 4×4 variants are highly capable vehicles that can take on any terrain and obstacle. By letting consumers witness and experience first-hand these capabilities in a controlled environment, like in the Isuzu 4×4 Action Playground, we can better inform them of the unmatched qualities of Isuzu vehicles,” IPC Senior Vice President Arthur Balmadrid said during the event’s opening.
Making the outdoor activities more exciting were games held every two hours that guests played onstage, booths that displayed a variety of accessorized Isuzu vehicles and standard models, plus a service caravan that offered a special 30 percent discount on parts and 20 percent on labor charges, as well as general repairs and light PMS on customer vehicles. A booth for Isuzu merchandise was also set up.
Customers who registered for the discounts on Isuzu-supplied parts, lubes and accessories can avail of the items at all authorized Isuzu dealerships in Metro Manila and Bulacan any day between November 25 and December 31, 2016.
Apart from the thrills provided in the 4×4 Action Playground and by the other activities, more attractions were available inside the SM Fairview mall, which was held from November 23 to 29, 2016. Guests who inquired on Isuzu models were given the chance to play Pachinko and the slot machine, where they received prizes. A giant Jenga was also put up for all guests to enjoy.
Isuzu’s Fun 4×4 Models
The mu-X 4×4 LS-A, which is equipped with Isuzu’s 4JJ1-TC (HI) 3.0-liter diesel engine that has common rail direct injection, an intercooler and a Variable Geometry System (VGS) turbocharger, is rated to produce 160.7Hp at 3,200rpm and 380Nm of torque at 1,800-2,200rpm. An available five-speed automatic transmission that boasts a sequential shift function can be matched to this engine.
This is the same robust and fuel-efficient powertrain that’s found in the D-MAX 3.0L 4×4 LS. The horsepower and torque provided by the engine ensured that both mu-X and D-MAX models featured at the Isuzu 4×4 Action Playground were able to traverse the obstacles on the track without encountering any difficulty.
Also helping the mu-X and D-MAX to achieve incomparable off-road capability is Isuzu’s 4WD Terrain Command Select Dial, which allows drivers to switch from two-wheel drive to four-wheel drive Low mode by simply turning a knob. Drivers may also switch from two-wheel drive to four-wheel drive High mode even while the vehicles are traveling at speeds of up to 100kph. The mu-X and D-MAX also have ideal approach and departure angles, boosting their performance in all types of terrain.
The 2016 mu-X 4×4 3.0L LS-A AT and mu-X 4×2 3.0L LS-A AT are equipped with Hill Start Assist, which prevents the vehicles from rolling back when starting from a stop on an incline; cruise control; a new rear spoiler with integrated third brake lamp; interior chrome garnishes; multi-information display and instrument meters; and an entertainment system that features a high-resolution 8-inch capacitive touch screen display and control panel for the various improved functions, including for WiFi, Bluetooth and BT Music. The system’s navigation feature also has a pinch function, as well as split screen capacity when in radio, disc, USB and iPod modes.
Along with the new features, the 2016 mu-X variants are also offered with the new obsidian grey color, adding to the cosmic black, silky pearl white, titanium silver and outback brown choices.
