I’m sure you don’t see grandeur at first glance when thinking of the most aspirational vacation destinations in the country. The Balesins, Amanpulos, or Banwas of the country are unassuming when you see them, especially from their entrances. What makes these places a hit for the upper class are their privacy, comfort, and level of service.
The situation is the same for the all-new BYD eMAX 9 DM-i. This premium MPV is low-key even at its best angle but packs a lot of comfort and convenience that will surely pique the curiosity of residents from exclusive villages in the country.

Gen Z best describes the eMAX 9’s design as quiet luxury. It doesn’t boast, nor does it try to stand out. It has a shiny front end with a simple BYD emblem at the top bar. The sides are curvy and minimalist, while the rear is muted as well. You won’t have to worry about anything, though, because the eMAX 9 is functionally solid. It has automatic lighting, rain-sensing wipers, heated side mirrors, and a powered tailgate with a position memory function.
Starting at the front section, the dashboard layout is as minimalist as it can be. It still has the usual digital instrument cluster but now has a non-rotating touchscreen at the center of the dash. The center console is spacious, having only a wireless charger, an empty slot for another phone, and a single row of buttons under it. They moved the shifter to the steering column so the center console isn’t cluttered up.

Also gone is the typical air vent design. It’s now fixed, which allowed BYD to make it slimmer, and it can only be controlled on the touchscreen. They also have preset airflows, despite their fixed nature, giving you flexibility in the air flow.
The second row is where comfort and convenience reside. There’s a pair of captain seats with power adjustment and a recline mode for utmost rest when on the go. These, together with the front row seats, have a massage function for the Premium trim for less body fatigue during long drives or traffic gridlock.
Best of all, there’s a legit ref behind the center console, in front of the captain seats. This is not a cooler, mind you, as it can go into the negative Celsius range to really frost up your drinks.

At the back is still a comfortable third row that can accommodate three average-sized people. They have their own air vents and also have a powered adjustment (in the Premium trim). There’s also a USB-A charging port on both sides for your devices.
What makes the eMAX 9 a step up from its rivals in the scene is the controls for this third-row seat. Apart from the occupant’s side, it also has buttons on the cargo area. It allows you to adjust the 60-40 split backrest of the third row, and if needed, there’s a button so it will tumble and fold on its own. All of these features can be controlled with the touch of a button. It’s also neat, as it folds flat, giving you a simple but spacious area for your belongings if only the second row is occupied.

Of course, the BYD eMAX 9 DM-i has the power to take you from home to the airport quickly. It has 271 PS of power and 315 Nm of torque. It has an EV range of 95-170 kilometers and a combined range of 945-1,000 km depending on the variant. Top speed is 200 km/h while its battery capacity is at 20.4 kWh, or 36.6 kWh. It’s also aided by its Di-Sus active suspension system, so you’re sure of a plush ride every drive.
Charging the eMAX 9 will take 3 hours from 15% to full with a standard 7 kW charger, while fast charging with a 43 kW charger will go for 30 minutes from 30% to 80%.
The eMAX 9 also comes with a plethora of Advanced Driver Assist Systems. Among these are the 360-camera system with see-through mode, Adaptive Cruise Control, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Lane Departure Assistance. There are also 8 airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, hill hold and hill descent control, anti-rollover control, and vehicle dynamic control.

It will also come with a portable charging cable, a wall-mounted charger, and a vehicle-to-load adapter. It’s also equipped with NFC card operation and BYD app integration, and you can start your air conditioner from the key fob.
The all-new BYD eMAX 9 DM-i will be available in Aurora White, Cosmos Black, and Deep Sea Blue, while its interior is black for the Advanced trim and a combination of beige and brown for the Premium trim. The Premium trim is priced at P2,998,000.00, while the Advanced trim goes for P2,678,000.00.
