The Geely Monjaro EM-i plug-in hybrid SUV crossed Egypt’s Black and White Deserts in 188.6 kilometers, earning a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title in September for the “Fastest crossing of Egypt’s Black and White Deserts in the Sahara by a plug-in hybrid powered production SUV.”
The continuous route took the SUV through extreme heat and challenging terrain. During the drive, it also faced five capability tests covering handling and stability, steep-slope climbs, cross-axle recovery, ride comfort on rough terrain and acceleration at a low battery charge.
Geely attributes the vehicle’s performance to its EM-i Super Hybrid system, intelligent electric all-wheel drive and Continuous Damping Control suspension. The company says the AWD system adjusts torque distribution to suit road conditions, while its power-management system is designed to maintain responsive performance in demanding conditions.
