As traffic delays and public-transport gaps push more Filipinos toward private vehicles, VinFast says its VF 5 is built to meet two rising demands at once: everyday urban mobility and income-generating use for small businesses.
Metro Manila drivers lost an average of 143 hours to traffic in 2025, the TomTom Traffic Index reports, and overall vehicle sales in the Philippines hit a record 491,395 units last year, according to data from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) show. At the same time, a growing gig economy is turning cars into revenue tools: a 2025 Ipsos study found about 9.9 million Filipinos participate in some form of gig work, many using personal vehicles to earn extra income.
VinFast designed the VF 5 with those twin realities in mind. The VF 5’s commercial potential is already on display in Vietnam, where Green GSM uses it as the primary vehicle for its all-electric ride-hailing fleet. Locally, EV adoption is accelerating: Land Transportation Office figures show 29,715 EV registrations in the first seven months of 2025, surpassing the 24,000 units registered for the whole of 2024. Policy support helps, too. The Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act extended zero-tariff treatment for EVs and components through 2028, lowering acquisition costs for fleet operators and entrepreneurs considering all-electric vehicles.
For Filipinos weighing a first-car purchase against an entrepreneurial investment, the VF 5 aims to remove the trade-off. VinFast argues the model is practical enough for daily family use while robust enough for demanding commercial routes, letting owners shift between personal and business roles as needs change.
VinFast is also expanding the supporting ecosystem in the Philippines during its second year in-market. The company is rolling out vehicles, charging infrastructure, dealerships and aftersales support, and offers ownership options such as battery subscription, a resale-value guarantee and free charging on the V-Green network through March 31, 2029 — incentives meant to ease the transition to electric mobility.
