The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) has strengthened its advocacy for consumer protection and road safety after officially signing an E-Commerce Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with leading online shopping platforms. Held in Makati CIty, the signing on December 12, 2025 was witnessed by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), marking a significant step toward curbing the proliferation of counterfeit automotive parts sold through digital marketplaces.
The partnership reinforces CAMPI’s broader mission to enhance vehicle safety standards nationwide while protecting Filipino motorists from low-quality and potentially dangerous counterfeit products. Present at the signing ceremony were CAMPI President Atty. Rommel R. Gutierrez and IPOPHL Acting Director General Nathaniel Arevalo, along with representatives from major e-commerce platforms including Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok Shop. All participating platforms expressed strong support for the initiative and their commitment to maintaining safe and transparent online marketplaces.
Gutierrez noted that the MOU signing holds special significance as it coincides with CAMPI’s 30th anniversary this year, underscoring the organization’s long-standing commitment to public safety and industry integrity.
“This collaboration could not have come at a more fitting time,” he said. “As we mark three decades of service to the motoring public, CAMPI continues to strengthen its mission to raise awareness and fight against counterfeit products that compromise the safety of Filipino consumers.”
He further emphasized that the agreement directly supports CAMPI’s Road and Vehicle Safety Pillar, which prioritizes industry-wide standards to ensure that only genuine and high-quality automotive components reach consumers.
“This initiative is aligned with our Road and Vehicle Safety Pillar, which highlights our long-standing commitment to advance industry-wide safety standards and ensure that only genuine, high-quality automotive parts reach our roads,” Gutierrez continued.
CAMPI underscored that road safety and vehicle safety are deeply interconnected. While the organization continues to advocate for safer roads through policy engagement and public awareness campaigns, addressing the threat of counterfeit parts remains equally critical in ensuring vehicles on Philippine roads meet safety standards.
Implemented initially in 2021, the E-Commerce MOU aims to establish a Code of Practice or Conduct designed to reduce the sale of counterfeit and pirated products online. Facilitated by IPOPHL, the agreement enhances collaboration between brand owners and e-commerce platforms, including streamlined and effective Notice and Takedown (NTD) procedures to remove infringing listings swiftly.
According to Land Transportation Office (LTO) data, the number of fleet vehicles in the country reached approximately 5.8 million units in 2024, creating substantial demand for aftermarket parts. This environment has made online platforms a key channel for counterfeit goods. By joining the MOU, CAMPI aims to promote a stronger Intellectual Property (IP) culture within the automotive industry and assist its members in building robust IP protection strategies.
E-commerce platforms Shopee, Lazada, Zalora, and TikTok Shop affirmed their commitment to the MOU, pledging to maintain effective and transparent NTD systems that respond promptly to verified complaints. These safeguards are expected to help curb counterfeit sales while reinforcing consumer trust in legitimate online automotive transactions.
IPOPHL Acting Director General Nathaniel S. Arevalo commended CAMPI’s involvement in the initiative, highlighting the broader economic and safety implications.
“We are pleased to witness CAMPI’s onboarding into this E-commerce MOU. We recognize that choosing authentic spare parts is not only a matter of compliance; it is a commitment to safety, quality, and accountability for consumers’ sake,” Arevalo said. “By doing so, we respect the intellectual property rights of innovators and creators in the Philippine automotive industry. This will contribute to their economic gain, an important aspect in fostering their ingenuity to produce more advanced and quality products for the benefit of all Filipinos.”
As CAMPI marks its 30th year, the organization reiterated its renewed Mission and Vision to steer the local automotive industry toward greater innovation, enhanced safety standards, and stronger consumer protection. With an expanding membership base and deepening collaboration with both government agencies and private-sector partners, CAMPI reaffirmed its commitment to responsible manufacturing, fair trade practices, and the highest standards of vehicle safety in the years ahead.
