Nissan has announced its commitment to compete in the all-electric FIA Formula E World Championship until at least 2030. The company is so committed to its participation that it is now included as one of the pillars of Ambition 2030, Nissan’s new long-term vision for empowering mobility and beyond.

The announcement was made at the press conference before the inaugural Japanese E-Prix in Tokyo. Nissan Formula E Team Managing Director and Team Principal Tommaso Volpe signed the official document for their registration in Seasons 13 (2026/27) to 16 (2029/30), together with FIA Senior Circuit Sport Director Marek Nawarecki and in the presence of Formula E Chief Executive Officer Jeff Dodds.

Nissan made its all-electric racing debut in Season 5 (2018–19) of the all-electric championship, becoming the first and only Japanese manufacturer to enter the series.

In season 7 (2020/21), Nissan announced its long-term involvement in Formula E and its commitment to the Gen3 era, which will run from Season 9 (2022/23) to the end of Season 12 (2025/26).

In April 2022, Nissan acquired the e.dams race team, taking full ownership of its involvement in the championship. In June of the same year, Nissan announced it would supply Nissan EV powertrain technology to McLaren Racing for the entirety of the Formula E Gen3 era.

For the current (10th) season, Oliver Rowland and Sacha Fenestraz are Nissan’s drivers for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. They are set to compete in the first-ever Tokyo ePrix that is happening on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at the Tokyo Street Circuit around the Big Sight Convention Center in Ariake on the Tokyo Bay waterfront.

Nissan participates in Formula E to bring the excitement and fun of zero-emission electric vehicles to a global audience. As part of its goal to achieve carbon neutrality across its operations and the life cycle of its products by 2050, Nissan intends to electrify every all-new vehicle offering by the early 2030s in key markets. It aims to bring its expertise in transferring knowledge and technology between the racetrack and road for better electric vehicles for customers.
